  • Do not double-dose without specific professional instruction.
  • Ask a pharmacist if you are unsure or have missed more than one dose.

Why there is no universal instruction

Antibiotics have different dosing schedules, formulations and precautions. Some patient leaflets advise taking a forgotten dose when remembered unless it is nearly time for the next one. That pattern does not replace the instructions for your particular product.

If the instructions are unclear, your pharmacist can help you decide the next safe step.

Avoid trying to “catch up”

Taking doses too close together can increase the chance of side effects. Do not double a dose without specific advice. If you have accidentally taken extra medicine or feel unwell, ask a pharmacist or local urgent-care service what to do.

For the rest of the course

Continue according to the plan given by your prescriber. If you have missed several doses or cannot keep to the schedule, speak to them rather than extending or stopping the course yourself.
