Work package 2

Multicenter, randomized clinical trial to compare fosfomycin vs. nitrofurantoin for the treatment of lower urinary tract infection (UTI) in women at high risk of antibiotic-resistant pathogens.

This study will provide an answer to the key scientific and clinical question regarding the possible superiority of one of two off-patent antimicrobial agents (nitrofurantoin vs fosfomycin) in the treatment of lower uncomplicated UTI. In addition, the study will provide answers to relevant clinical questions, in particular the risk of adverse events. The results of this trial will provide the data for the PK/PD analyses in Workpackage 4.
